Het Belgische Lotto Billie Jean King Cup-team speelde in april de qualifiers in en tegen het sterke team van de VS. Met kapitein Wim Fissette aan het roer gingen ze eervol ten onder waardoor België in november (16-17 november) deelneemt aan de BJK Cup Play-offs. Daar zullen ze het opnemen tegen China en de ontmoeting gaat ook in China door. De inzet? Een plaats op de Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers in april 2025.

🇧🇪 doubles OOP Thursday: continued .@elise_mertens vs Jessica Pegula 4-6, 2-6. Elise did not play bad but Pegula was outstanding. Very solid, intelligent, lots of winners. Too good. Just like last year Elise plays a final in Hobart and R2 in Melbourne. Last year she also won the doubles title @AustralianOpen. 6-4 Pegula. Not much betwen them but the American has more winners on her conto. Mertens vs. Pegula 👀 Mixed doubles: .@ZizouBergs vs Facundo Diaz Acosta 7-6, 4-6, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6. Zizou goes down fighting. In the end all the travel, 7 matches in Auckland and a 4 hour match today were too much. Probably hard to see it right now but still a very positive start of the season. #AusOpen 4-all in the 5th between @ZizouBergs and Diaz Acosta. Approaching the 4 hour mark. Gruelling. 6-3 Diaz Acosta. Zizou got broken at 3-4. Fatigue kicking in. Needs a big heart to pull this out in the fifth set. #AusOpen 6-1 @ZizouBergs ! Very welcome this set. Zizou sharper again while Diaz Acosta lost the plot a bit. One set to go.

Ons Belgische team schreef tennisgeschiedenis in 2001. Voor het eerst pakten ze de BILLIE JEAN KING CUP TEAM titel met Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters, Els Callens, Laurence Courtois en de toenmalige coach Ivo Van Aken. In 2022 kon het Belgische team zich opnieuw plaatsen voor de Billie Jean King Cup finals waar ze niet verder kwamen dan de Groupe stage. In 2024 nemen ze het op in en tegen China voor een plaats op de Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers in April 2025. Let’s go, Team Belgium!
